Before choosing revision material, identify the unit code as well as the board. A question labelled AS mechanics could come from a different specification and may assume different content. Use the official specification to map the course, then the free topic notes to rebuild concepts that appear in your own WPH units.

Connect practical reasoning to the topic being studied. For example, a materials investigation can involve measurement choices, a graph gradient and the physical meaning of the result. That lets students practise WPH13 skills while learning WPH11, rather than treating practical work as an unrelated vocabulary exercise near the exam.

Students should be able to explain why a method produces useful data, not just list apparatus. For a timing experiment, measuring several cycles and dividing by the number of cycles can reduce the percentage effect of reaction time. A complete answer connects the proposed method to the measurement problem and uses appropriate units and precision.

When enquiring, identify whether the student is preparing WPH11, WPH12 or WPH13 and which topics have already been taught at school. Keep earlier concepts active when moving on. Conservation laws, wave relationships, circuit reasoning and graph skills do not become irrelevant after the IAS papers. A short review of the foundations needed for each later topic is more useful than waiting until a difficult A2 question exposes every gap at once.

Use a simple motion question to check the whole process: choose a positive direction, identify known quantities, convert units, select an equation and interpret the sign of the answer. If one step is unreliable, repair it with short practice. That gives you a firmer start than reading advanced chapters while foundational algebra remains uncertain.

For example, knowing that a steeper velocity–time graph means greater acceleration is a conceptual start. Calculating acceleration also requires a sensible triangle, consistent axis units and a signed gradient. Working through those steps reveals whether the difficulty is reading the graph, handling numbers or understanding what the result represents.
