Edexcel IGCSE Physics Modular tutor
International GCSE modular course · Unit-by-unit exam preparation
Dr Mohamed Desouky teaches the modular Edexcel International GCSE Physics course, with lessons and exam practice matched to each unit. Study in person in Khalidiya, near Abu Dhabi Corniche, or join live online groups from the UAE and Gulf.
The modular qualification is 4XPH1, made up of units 4WPH1 and 4WPH2. It is a separate route from the linear 4PH1 course. Online groups cost AED 150 per 90-minute session; contact Dr Desouky for in-person availability, location and fees.

Unit 1, 4WPH1/1P, and Unit 2, 4WPH2/1P, are each externally assessed in a 1-hour-40-minute written examination worth 90 marks and 50% of the qualification. Both units are untiered and use multiple-choice, short-answer, calculation and extended open-response questions.
The two unit results must be aggregated through the 4XPH1 cash-in to obtain the final International GCSE Physics grade. The route was first taught from September 2024, with its first examinations and certification in 2025.
Unit 1 places forces and motion, electricity, energy resources and transfers, and the first part of solids, liquids and gases into one assessment. This creates useful links—energy appears in mechanics, circuits and generation—but also means formula selection and unit discipline must remain reliable across very different contexts.
Teaching is sequenced around those links, then tightened to the 4WPH1 paper. Students practise switching from a motion graph to a circuit calculation or an evaluation of energy resources without losing the command word or the physical model.
Unit 2 assesses waves; ideal gases; magnetism and electromagnetism; radioactivity and particles; and astrophysics. The content becomes less directly visible, so diagrams, proportional reasoning and precise explanations matter more.
Practical investigations are embedded across the specification and experimental skills are assessed in writing. Unit 2 preparation therefore includes planning, variables, data, graphs and evaluation alongside the conceptual work.
Each 90-minute live online group session costs AED 150, with schedules agreed with students and groups. The scheme of work follows the unit the student is preparing to sit, rather than borrowing a linear 4PH1 timetable.
Weekly homework is checked individually and regular exams are used within each unit, so weaknesses are visible before the 90-mark paper. Direct WhatsApp access lets students ask Dr Desouky about feedback or a difficult specification point between sessions.
This entry is for students whose school or examination centre has confirmed the modular separate-science Physics route: unit codes 4WPH1/1P and 4WPH2/1P, with cash-in code 4XPH1. It is useful both for students beginning Unit 1 and for those moving into Unit 2 who need a unit-specific revision and assessment plan.
It is not the linear 4PH1 route. Before joining, students should check the code on their school timetable or statement of entry; that single detail determines which content map, paper structure and homework sequence they need.

The Edexcel International GCSE Physics Modular qualification cash-in code is 4XPH1. Its two mandatory units are Physics Unit 1, 4WPH1/1P, and Physics Unit 2, 4WPH2/1P. The unit codes identify the examinations; the cash-in code identifies the overall qualification award.
Keep the distinction visible when planning tuition. Saying Unit 1 is less precise than giving 4WPH1/1P, because other qualifications also have a first unit. Your examination centre handles entries and the final award process; the teaching plan should follow the particular unit and content you are preparing to sit.
Edexcel International GCSE Physics Modular was first taught from September 2024, with first examinations and certification in 2025. It is a newer assessment route than linear 4PH1, so check that revision materials identify the modular unit you are studying rather than relying on the word Edexcel alone.
A shorter history of available papers makes careful use of the specification and sample assessment material particularly useful. Existing topic questions can still support learning where content matches, but label them as topic practice. For a timed mock or full-unit check, use material designed for the correct modular unit.
Each Edexcel modular Physics unit examination lasts one hour 40 minutes, is worth 90 marks and contributes 50% of the qualification. Both units matter equally to the overall award, although the topics and types of errors a student needs to repair may differ between units.
Practise the full duration for the unit you will sit, then review how time was used. Spending too long on one difficult calculation can leave accessible explanation or data marks unanswered. Use marks and question demands to guide pacing, while allowing time to check units, signs and whether every part has been attempted.
No. Edexcel 4XPH1 identifies modular International GCSE Physics, using 4WPH1 and 4WPH2 units. Linear 4PH1 uses Papers 1P and 2P. They are different assessment routes, so students should confirm their entry code before choosing a course, paper set or revision timetable.
Shared physics does not make the papers interchangeable. The modular course divides the specification across unit assessments, while the linear course has its own paper coverage and depth. Use explanations from another route only where the content matches, then return to your own specification and examination format.
Teaching follows the modular unit the student is preparing to sit and the intended examination date. Live online group sessions last 90 minutes and cost AED 150 each. Share the exact unit code, current school coverage and recent work so the relevant group and teaching priorities can be discussed.
The aim is to revise the right content in the right order. Unit-specific homework and regular exams help reveal weaknesses before the unit examination. Students who join receive recorded sessions for catch-up, and parents can contact Dr Desouky with questions. The examination centre confirms entries and administrative deadlines.
Unit 1 covers forces and motion, electricity, energy resources and transfers, and specified solids, liquids and gases content. Unit 2 covers waves, ideal gases, magnetism and electromagnetism, radioactivity and particles, and astrophysics. Use the specification statements to check the precise boundary of each unit.
The split can be easy to misread if your textbook groups all thermal or particle ideas into one chapter. Map each specification statement to the unit rather than assuming a whole textbook chapter belongs in one paper. Experimental skills also need practice alongside the content listed for the relevant unit.
Use the official modular specification and sample assessments to define what to learn, then build topic practice around those statements. Save suitable full-unit papers for timed checks. Questions from another route can help with shared concepts, but they should not be treated as a complete modular mock.
For each topic, alternate recall, calculations, explanations and practical reasoning. Keep a record of the exact skill an error exposed, then choose a new question that tests that skill. This avoids using up the available papers simply to read solutions, while still building the ability to respond to unfamiliar contexts.
