Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1 paper structure
Paper 1P is a 2-hour written examination worth 110 marks, or 61.1% of 4PH1. It assesses the specification content that is not shown in bold and does not carry a P reference. Questions can come from every topic area.
Paper 2P lasts 1 hour 15 minutes and is worth 70 marks, or 38.9%. It assesses all content, including the deeper bold P statements, and can also test the foundations assessed in Paper 1P. Both papers use a mixture of multiple choice, short answers, calculations and extended open responses.
The difference between Edexcel Paper 1P and Paper 2P
Paper 2P is not simply a shorter paper on a separate list of topics. It adds specification depth while retaining access to the full course, so weak fundamentals can cost marks twice. Preparation is mapped statement by statement: core content is secured first, then the P material is layered onto it.
Students also learn to recognise where the command word changes the task. “State”, “describe”, “explain”, “calculate” and “evaluate” require different evidence, even when the underlying topic is the same.
Calculations, practical questions and extended responses
4PH1 rewards more than a final numerical answer. Substitution, rearrangement, significant figures, units and a conclusion in context all matter. Multi-stage calculations are taught as visible chains so method marks remain available even when arithmetic slips.
Experimental skills are assessed in writing across the papers. Students practise variables, methods, tables, graphs, conclusions and evaluation alongside each topic, rather than leaving practical questions for the final weeks.
The 4PH1 tutoring system
Live online group sessions are 90 minutes and cost AED 150. The schedule is agreed with students and groups, allowing the pace to follow their school coverage and examination date.
Weekly homework is checked individually against the relevant 4PH1 skill, while regular exams test cumulative retention across both papers. Direct WhatsApp access gives students a route to ask Dr Desouky about a calculation, mark-scheme point or homework correction before the next class.
Who should join the Edexcel 4PH1 course
This course is for students entered for the linear Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics qualification 4PH1. It suits students learning the course from the beginning, candidates who understand lessons but underperform on papers, and those who need a clean distinction between Paper 1P foundations and Paper 2P depth.
It is not the newer modular route. Students entered for unit codes 4WPH1/1P and 4WPH2/1P should use the Edexcel International GCSE Physics Modular course, where preparation follows two separately assessed units and the 4XPH1 cash-in.

Which Edexcel International GCSE Physics qualification does this course cover?
This course covers Edexcel International GCSE separate-science Physics 4PH1, the linear qualification assessed through Papers 1P and 2P. Students taking the modular 4XPH1 route need the separate modular course. Check the qualification code on your school course information or statement of entry.
A book or worksheet labelled Edexcel Physics does not by itself establish the assessment route. The distinction matters because revision needs to follow the right paper coverage and depth. Share the exact code before selecting a group, particularly when a school has introduced modular assessment for a newer cohort.
How are Papers 1P and 2P weighted?
In Edexcel 4PH1, Paper 1P lasts two hours and carries 110 marks, worth 61.1% of the qualification. Paper 2P lasts one hour 15 minutes and carries 70 marks, worth 38.9%. Together the two papers total 180 raw marks.
Paper 1P has the larger weighting, but that is not a reason to ignore Paper 2P. Use timed practice for both formats and review which skills are costing marks. Grade boundaries can change between examination series, so a fixed raw-mark percentage should not be treated as a guaranteed grade.
Can Paper 2P test Paper 1P content?
Yes. Edexcel 4PH1 Paper 2P can assess all specification content, including the additional statements shown in bold with a P reference. It can therefore test the foundations also used in Paper 1P. Paper 2P is not a separate collection of topics that replaces core revision.
Secure the shared explanation or calculation first, then add the additional depth. For instance, difficulty interpreting a circuit does not disappear when the question moves to more demanding content. Mark the P statements on the specification so you can see what needs extra study while continuing to revisit the underlying physics.
Are practical skills covered for Edexcel 4PH1?
Yes. Edexcel 4PH1 assesses experimental skills through written questions, so tuition includes methods, variables, measurements, graphs, conclusions and evaluation. Practical reasoning is taught alongside the topic content rather than treated as a separate paper to revise at the end.
For a resistance investigation, understanding the circuit is only the start. The student also needs to identify what is measured, how the readings determine resistance and which conditions could change the result. A specific improvement should explain which measurement problem it addresses, rather than simply saying to use better equipment.

How do I write a stronger extended answer in Edexcel IGCSE Physics?
Build a logical answer around the exact task: identify the physical idea, apply it to the situation and connect each step to the conclusion. Include relevant data or comparisons where requested. A longer answer is not automatically stronger if it repeats the same point or misses the command word.
For an experimental method, describe a sequence another person could follow, including the measurements, controls and processing that answer the question. For an explanation, show the causal links. After writing, check whether each sentence earns its place and whether the final conclusion follows from the evidence given.
Should I finish all Paper 1P revision before starting Paper 2P?
You do not need to postpone every Paper 2P topic until all Paper 1P revision is complete. Build secure foundations within a topic, add its required Paper 2P depth, then revisit both. Use the official specification to avoid leaving the additional P statements until the final weeks.
A practical plan combines topic work with cumulative review. After studying a topic, attempt questions at the appropriate depth, check mistakes and schedule a later mixed revisit. Full timed papers then test whether those separate skills work together under the correct examination conditions.
