Does online Physics tutoring work? What to check before joining

Online Physics tuition can be useful when a student participates, attempts problems and receives feedback. Whether it suits your child depends on their concentration, study environment and the support around the live class.
At Dr Desouky Physics Academy, students can attend in person in Abu Dhabi or join live online groups. The guidance below explains what to check; the academy’s selected results are not a controlled comparison of the two formats.
Can the student take part in the lesson?
Before joining, check the device, internet connection and workspace. The student needs to see the working clearly, write their own solution and ask a question when a step is unclear.
Ask how students contribute and how the teacher checks understanding. A useful lesson includes time to think and practise, not only time spent watching somebody else calculate.
Live lessons and catch-up recordings serve different purposes
Live sessions allow students to ask questions and work through problems with the group. Recordings help an enrolled student catch up on missed teaching or revisit an explanation at their own pace.
Students who join Dr Desouky’s group receive recorded sessions for catch-up. Use them actively: pause before the solution, attempt the question, then compare each step. Bring any remaining difficulty to the teacher. Confirm how to access the recordings and which earlier lessons are relevant to your group.
What is the group size, price and timetable?
The academy’s groups have around 20 students. Live online sessions cost AED 150 for 90 minutes. Timetables differ by exam board, so check the current days and times with Dr Desouky before making arrangements.
Parents are kept informed and can contact Dr Desouky at any time with questions. A contact channel does not mean an immediate reply at every hour; agree how best to discuss the student’s progress and any missed work.
How are practical skills prepared online?
Physics students still need to understand measurements, variables, graphs, uncertainty and evaluation. Check the practical requirements of the exact qualification and ask how lessons connect those skills to examination questions.
Online explanations do not replace any practical experience, laboratory work or examination arrangements required by the board or school. Cambridge IGCSE routes and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE or International A-Level assess these skills differently.
What can results tell a parent?
Our student-results page includes result images and individual student and parent feedback. These examples describe outcomes and experiences; they do not isolate the effect of online teaching from prior attainment, school support or the student’s own work.
Discuss a recent piece of work, choose the format the student can attend consistently and review progress through fresh questions. A short diagnostic can reveal a starting point, but it is not an official predicted grade or a substitute for a teacher’s full assessment.

How should a student use a recorded Physics lesson without just watching passively?
Pause before each worked solution, attempt the question on paper, then compare the reasoning step by step. Record the first step you could not complete and bring that question to the teacher. A recording is most useful when it produces work you can check.
After replaying a difficult explanation, close the video and explain the idea without it. Then change a number or condition in the example and try again. If the method only works while the teacher's solution is visible, add more independent practice. The academy provides session recordings for enrolled group students to support catch-up; confirm access and which lessons match the current group's sequence.
What equipment does a student need for an online Physics lesson?
Use a device and screen that make equations and diagrams readable, a reliable connection, paper, a pen and the calculator used for study. Check the academy's current joining instructions. The student should also have a practical way to ask questions and share working when requested.
Test the setup before the first lesson by reading a graph and following a multi-line calculation on screen. Keep the workspace clear enough to write, rather than balancing everything on a phone. Have the correct course notes and unit information ready. If the connection fails or a lesson is missed, ask about the group's catch-up procedure instead of assuming every missed activity is covered by a recording alone.
Can online explanations replace the practical experience needed for Physics?
Online teaching can develop planning, data analysis and evaluation, but it does not automatically replace the practical experience required by a specification or school. Ask how supervised practical work is provided for your exact qualification and how it connects to the written assessment.
Knowing that temperature should stay constant is useful; seeing a resistor warm up makes the experimental limitation concrete. A student can practise interpreting data online while still needing suitable supervised apparatus work. Cambridge's practical routes and Edexcel's written practical assessments differ, so avoid using 'online practical preparation' as a substitute for checking the actual course requirements with the school or centre.
